The purpose of the department Employee of the Month Program is to formally recognize employees for outstanding performance in the workplace. The Employee of the Month is selected by a committee comprised of employee representatives from each of the divisions within the Environmental Department.
JUNE 2010 - Congratulations to Brian Call Environmental Department Employee of the Month for June. Brian has been with the City of Logan Environmental Department since 1995. He began his career with the Commercial Crew driving Roll Off routing. Through these years Brian has always been a dependable hard working employee. He has been willing to help his fellow crew members on a daily basis where ever needed. Whenever Brian is asked to take on additional responsibilities and work loads he does so with a good attitude and strong work ethic. Brian has been crew chief over the Commercial Roll Off and Front Load crews for the last four years. During this time he has been proactive in improving routes and procedures for the department; constantly looking for better ways and opportunities to create efficiency in the work place. Throughout Brian’s tenure he has always maintained and given excellent customer service, and expects the same from his crew. He understands the workings of the department and the responsibilities of each division and how they work together. He encourages customers and team members alike to manage and practice correct waste stream procedures. Brian has a great attitude and sense of humor that is appreciated by all. Brian, we are glad you are part of our team.
May 2010 - Wes has been employed by the City of Logan Environmental Department since 2008. Wes has received training on every service vehicle in the department as well as training for maintenance and upkeep of commercial bins. With these strengths and abilities Wes has proven to be a great asset to the Department. He is able to step in to any crew as assigned whether it is curbside collection or commercial collection. Wes always has a good attitude and meets everyday and everyone with a smile. Where ever he is assigned he is willing to go the extra mile to help his coworkers and customers alike. Wes also keeps his work areas clean and organized. Wes tackles each day’s responsibilities with integrity following through with each assignment to the best of his ability. He is appreciated not only for his work ethic but for the great attitude he exemplifies each day. Congratulations, Wes.
APRIL 2010- Rex was hired as Hazardous Waste Inspector at the Landfill in 2009; Rex has learned his new duties quickly and performs his daily tasks very well. He has raised the bar of concern with hazardous waste for the employees as well as the citizens. His kind and friendly demeanor makes it very easy for him to guide and teach the public as they visit the Hazardous Waste Facility. Rex gets along well with his coworkers, is willing to do what ever task he is asked to do and always has a good attitude and a smile. He keeps on top of his work, stays busy, and never complains. Rex has been a very positive influence to the entire landfill. His energetic personality and work ethic are contagious. Congratulations, Rex.
MARCH 2010- Randall has been with the City of Logan Environmental Department for 22 years. During that time he has had experience with residential routes and commercial routes, both front load and roll off. He currently oversees the residential curbside recycling and green waste recycling routes. His years of service to the City have given him many opportunities of service not only to the citizens of the City and county but to his fellow employees. The knowledge he has gained over the years is a great asset to the department and is shared with his fellow employees each day. He is a good worker, always willing to help the public and his coworkers. Randall always has a good attitude, gets along well with others and strives to give his all each day. FEBRUARY 2010- Ivan has been with the department for over 16 years. He works with the Commercial Crew as a Roll Off driver. Ivan is a very dependable employee, is always on time for work and goes quietly about getting his job done. He is consistent in accomplishing his job efficiently and effectively. He is always willing help out with other routes and is easy to work with. He is friendly and helpful to the public, extending excellent customer service skills. He always makes sure he is aware of what he hauls and is helpful to the landfill staff in their efforts to keep hazardous waste out of the landfill. Ivan is a knowledgeable and respected employee and everyone appreciates his positive attitude. Congratulations, Ivan.
JANUARY 2010- Tony has been with the City of Logan Environmental Department, Landfill Division in the Hazardous Waste facility for 5 years. Over the years, Tony has become very knowledgeable of the household hazardous waste regulations. He is always looking for ways to expand and improve the facility. Tony keeps the area clean and organized and well cared for. He is courteous towards customers and is helpful and informative in his educational opportunities with them. Tony is always willing to help fellow employees in any way he can. He is trained in scale house procedures and will help out there whenever needed. Tony communicates effectively and positively with other employees, has a cheerful attitude and strives to always improve and excel in whatever his responsibilities are. Tony takes pride in his job, pays great attention to compliance and is a very dedicated employee. We are glad to have him on our team. Congratulations.
DECEMBER 2009-Blaine has been with the City for the past 8 ½ years. He started out on the Collections Division with the Department gaining experience with the Curbside Refuse and Curbside Green waste service and also Commercial Routing as a Front Load Operator. Blaine moved over to the Landfill Division about 4 years ago as a Heavy Equipment Operator working at the face. Blaine is very much a team player, always willing to help coworkers in what ever way he can. His coworkers look to him as an example citing him as someone who has foresight and caring knowledgeable leadership skills. He is an excellent, skilled operator, has a good eye for grade and takes good care of his equipment. Blaine is a valued, respected employee admired for his sense of humor and ability to bind the team together in unity. Congratulations, Blaine.
NOVEMBER 2009-
Robert Murray has been with the Environmental Department with the City of Logan for a short while, but has blended in to his surroundings very well. He is assigned to the Landfill Division as a heavy equipment operator in the green waste area. Robert has learned his responsibilities very quickly, choosing to dive right in and learn all aspects of his job. He performs his tasks in a timely and professional manner. The green waste area looks good and works smoothly with his help. It has been rewarding to see such eagerness to be a good operator and team player. OCTOBER 2009-Mike Hass has been with the Environmental Department assigned to the curbside refuse collection since 2006. Mike has been a great asset to the department. He is always pleasant to work with and has a positive attitude and smile for everyone. Mike keeps his truck clean and well maintained, always ready for the next days work. He gives great customer service, going the extra mile when ever needed. Mike supports the office staff in efforts to rectify onsite issues, making sure they are resolved in a timely manner. He supports the landfill staff by his watchful care on his routing, reporting hazardous waste items and diverting them from entering the landfill. Mike is more than willing to help out with others routes each day contributing to a cohesive team. His coworkers appreciate his friendly courteous manner. Mike does his job well, is a good behind the scenes guy and dependable and dedicated. Congratulations Mike, we are glad you are on our team.
SEPTEMBER 2009- Jeff Spatig is a Solid Waste Crew Chief over the automated collection crew. He has been with the City for thirteen years and during that time has gained much knowledge and expertise. He is well liked and looked up to. He goes beyond the call of duty in support of his team, always willing to step in and help when they need assistance. Throughout his years of employment he has always demonstrated excellent customer service and passes that desire and goal of excellence to his team. Jeff has a lot of energy and is always on the go, educating himself as well as educating his team. He is very organized and aware of the needs of his crew. Jeff takes care of all his responsibilities in a timely manner and is always looking for ways to improve the Departments services. Congratulations, Jeff.
AUGUST 2009-
Nancy Servin has been with the City of Logan Environmental Department for about a year. She is an Equipment Operator working with the curbside refuse collection crew. Nancy is a very personable employee. Her past experience in the waste industry has been of great benefit to the department. She maintains and handles her truck well, with ease and proficiency. She has learned her routing duties quickly and is able to offer assistance to her fellow employees every day. Nancy takes pride in her job, has a positive attitude, and performs her job responsibilities efficiently. Customers have noticed the proficient manner in which Nancy performs her job, calling in to report their appreciation for her service. She is often found giving extra service to someone each day, whether a co-worker or a customer. Nancy’s pleasant, cheerful demeanor makes the work place a little brighter each day.
JULY 2009-
Allen Law has been employed with the City of Logan for 35 years. He began his career with the Logan Solid Waste Department, now known as the Environmental Department. Allen has seen and experienced many changes and improvements during his employment with the City. He has gained a knowledge and experience and ability through the years that is drawn upon by his fellow employees. Everyone likes respects and admires Allen. Allen is a very hard worker, takes excellent care of his truck, helps out his coworkers each day and has a great attitude. He also has an excellent safety record, one that is unmatched by anyone. Customers and coworkers alike are the recipients of Allen’s dedication, friendliness and cheerful demeanor. His excellent customer service is not only noticed by his coworkers but by those he serves. Customers often express their thanks for the service he gives them. We appreciate having Allen on our team.
JUNE 2009- Lucio Patino has been the City of Logan Environmental Department since June 2008 and works as an Equipment Operator with the Collections Division. Lucio caught on to his job responsibilities quickly. He has been very cooperative and helpful with his fellow co-workers. Lucio is always willing to help out with other routing or call backs whenever asked. He has an excellent customer service record, taking care of his customers in a timely manner each week. He has learned the different trucks well and keeps good routing records and takes pride in his work. Lucio is a quite, behind the scenes dependable worker, well thought of and appreciated by all his co-workers.
MAY 2009- Boyd Hubbard has been with the City since 2003, hired on as an Equipment Operator. Boyd is currently assigned to the Commercial Crew as a Roll off Driver. Boyd has always been willing to help his co-workers. He always communicates with his teammates to coordinate and assist where ever he can each day. Boyd is concerned with customer service; he has been willing to help out with last minute deliveries and empties for customers. He keeps excellent books, tracking account numbers and bin numbers to make sure he can offer the best service possible. Boyd has a great attitude and a great work ethic. He is a real team player, willing to help out with public service events and public education whenever possible. Boyd does a great job for the Environmental Department.

APRIL 2009- Mel Leishman has been with the City of Logan Environmental Department since 2000, he began as an Equipment Operator with the Collection Division later moving over to the Landfill Crew as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Mel has worked will in our department. He has been willing to learn from others, taking direction well. He is concerned about his job performance, trying to excel in what ever he is asked. Mel has always been a dedicated hard worker making every effort to help his team keep things running well. Mel works at communicating with his team and interacts well with customers. He stays busy all day and completes his job assignments in a timely manner. It is great to have Mel on our team.

MARCH 2009- Kyle Baird has been with the City of Logan for 7 ½ years, being hired on in the Compliance Division as a Pretreatment Inspector. Through his years of employment with the City, Kyle has accepted additional assignments as Pretreatment Billing Editor, Mosquito Abatement responsibilities and Wetlands Delineations. Kyle enjoys working for Logan City. He enjoys working with the public; he is courteous with his customers and educates them in the proper way of handling wastewater. He is always looking for ways to better serve the public in his various responsibilities. Kyle is resourceful and enjoys the learning process and taking on additional duties. Kyle is always cheerful and willing to help out and be supportive to his co-workers. Congratulations, Kyle.

FEBRUARY 2009- Neal Richards has been employed with the City since August 2008 but in that short time has earned the respect and admiration of all his fellow employees. Neal is assigned to the Special Services Crew on can delivery and is also called upon to fill in on bin delivery and with the residential automated crew as needed. Neal always has a good attitude, is always smiling and willing to help whenever asked. Whatever his day’s assignment he is positive and performs his assignments as directed and when his assignment is done he always calls in to seek other direction. Neal is dependable and trustworthy; he is polite to co-workers and customers alike. He is a great example of excellent customer service. We are very happy to have Neal as a co-worker. JANUARY 2009- Justin Goodsell is an equipment operator for the City of Logan Environmental Department and is assigned to the Commercial ecycling and Refuse collection crews. Justin has been with the City since 2007. In the short time he has been here he has learned his job quickly and well. He does a great job on his routing and goes beyond the normal requirements to provide great customer service. He is always willing to help co-workers and does it with a cheerful attitude. Justin is always helpful to the office staff when it comes to resolving customer and routing issues. Justin can always be depended on to respond to any issue or request in a courteous, friendly and professional manner. It is great to have Justin as a co-worker. Thanks, Justin.
