Without good air we couldn't live. Unfortunately our air quality has been degrading over the
years. We have had to live with an air pollutant called PM 2.5. This is not a new type of
pollution, as a matter of fact most of Utah's valley cities have had problems with it before it
started afflicting Cache Valley. The Bear River Health Department tests for PM 2.5 and sends the
results to the EPA, but it doesn't take a public announcement for those with asthma to tell that
the PM 2.5 levels are high. PM 2.5 irritates breathing conditions and can also cause heart
problems.
These two links can help keep you informed about Logan's air quality:
PM 2.5 are tiny particles in the air that are seen as smoke or a gray haze in the sky. In order to keep our air healthy we should listen for public announcements and learn what you can do to improve the air quality. Air quality is graded as green, yellow, or red burn days.
On Green Burn Days: wood burning is allowed and air quality is good.
On Yellow Burn Days: wood burning is discouraged and we are encouraged to carpool and use public transit.
On Red Burn Days: wood burning is prohibited and driving more than needful is discouraged. We should carpool or ride our bikes.
