Leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients are considered to be "household hazardous waste" or "HHW." Products like paints, cleaners, oils, CFL bulbs, batteries, and pesticides contain potentially hazardous ingredients and require special care when you dispose of them.
The Environmental Department operates a facility located at the Logan Landfill in which residents can safely dispose of household hazardous wastes. Using this program keeps everyone safe by preventing dangerous fires and explosions. It also prevents soil and water contamination.
People can also come down to the Household Hazardous Waste REuse shed at the landfill and take products for FREE! Just another way to keep the environment clean by recycling.
The following links explain how to recognize household hazardous wastes, manage them responsibly, and how to replace them with products that are not hazardous.
