R-71 has air ride suspension, IPD stabilizer bars, Bostrom Talledaga air ride seats, 170" ALS module, 72" headroom, fully integrated electrical system, PSE warning light system, Grover air horns and Stryker patient stretcher rated to 600lbs.
Rescue 71 is normally staffed with 2 paramedics and runs as ALS (Advanced Life Support) Ambulance hence the name rescue. It is stocked with all the equipment needed to do everything from IV's to intubation. It carries a Panasonic laptop called a Mobile Data Computer (MDC) used to transmit addresses, names and other information from dispatch to the ambulance staff. This unit also shows availability of resources and their locations. It will help to eliminate some radio traffic.
