The mission of the Logan Fire Department is to provide timely and effective emergency response,
fire prevention practices, and fire and life safety public education.
The Fire Prevention Bureau exists to provide fire prevention through code enforcement, inspection, public education, and fire investigation.
The Fire Prevention Bureau is staffed with one Fire Marshal/Battalion Chief and one Fire Inspector. Each fire company also assists in fire prevention by completing company fire inspections of businesses.
Code enforcement begins through detailed plan reviews to ensure that properties and buildings are constructed in accordance with local and state requirements. The Fire Prevention Bureau staff strives to provide communities and contractors with current fire code information to safely design, build, and maintain buildings and developments.
Bureau staff verifies testing of fire and life safety systems such as fire sprinkler, fire alarms, and restaurant hoods. The staff inspects events such as fairs, carnivals, and firework displays. The staff also educates owners and occupants on the safe handling and proper storage of hazardous materials.
The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for inspecting existing businesses and properties for fire code compliance. The code enforcement and inspection program also includes a company fire inspection program where, under the direction of a Captain, personnel inspect businesses in the city. Inspections are a key element in pre-fire planning and building systems awareness.
The
Public Education Program
consists of three Fire Education Specialists. They provide numerous programs intended to promote
and teach fire safety to all ages. They are trained to provide a large range of programs from
teaching kindergarteners how to “Stop, Drop and Roll” to assisting senior citizens in
recognizing and eliminating hazards in their home. They provide instruction in the Community
Emergency Response Team (
CERT
) program and provide intervention for children and families on how to curb juvenile fire setting
behavior.
The Fire Investigation Program consists of the Fire Marshal, a Fire Captain, and three Fire
Investigators. The Fire Investigation Program works in conjunction with the Logan City Police
Department during the investigation of fires. The Investigations Program is responsible for
determining the origin and cause of fires and the investigation of other fire related incidents.
