Tom Jensen

Tom Jensen The forests and lakes of Wisconsin provided the playground for Tom Jensen as he was growing up. A childhood scrapbook shows early drawings of buildings and homes, which led to the pursuit of a formal architectural design degree from Cornell University in 1970.

During that year he married Ronna, who has been his sweetheart for over 41 years. . In 1976 the family moved to Cache Valley. They were blessed with one son and three daughters and now nine delightful grandchildren

Tom founded his own architectural practice in Logan in 1980. Architectural Nexus now has 180 professionals and is one of the top 60 architect firms in the US.

As a direct result of Tom's focus on problem solving and improving the community, he became involved in numerous community planning opportunities including being Chairman of Cache 2010 Strategic Plan, the Cache Initiative, Envision Cache Valley, the Cache County Library Board and the Economic Development Committee of the Logan Downtown Alliance. He also was on the steering committee for the South Corridor Plan, Downtown Logan Specific Plan and a sustainable design effort focusing on preserving the south entry corridor.

In addition to design awards, Tom was named the Total Citizen of the Year by the Cache Chamber of Commerce in 1994 and received the Community Service Award from the USU Community Associates in 2007.

Tom's passion for community planning originated while touring with a small singing group when he was 20. He visited many communities where the community centers were safe, walk-able and full of vitality. Tom's deepest desire is that Logan reflects this vision.

Why am I running for City Council?
1. As a result of over 30 years of active participation in this community, I was encouraged to run by many who shared my vision and hope for a better Cache Valley.
2. I am stepping down from leadership and full-time involvement with my professional practice. This allows more time and freedom to concentrate on community issues.
3. I want to be a "citizen", not merely a resident. Citizens participate and contribute towards the public good. Our thoughts and efforts are needed.
4. I want to continue the progress and direction in which Logan is moving. Certainly there are problems to solve, but compared to many cities, Logan is very healthy and making progress. I want to further this.
5. Cache Valley's population is expected to double in the next thirty years. It is critical that we thoughtfully consider transportation, infrastructure, the provision of services and our land uses in a sustainable manner. My professional experience in planning will be helpful.
