Help Control Mosquito Populations

Logan City Environmental Department has begun mosquito prevention treatment this season to help control mosquito populations and protect the public. Standing water is prime breeding ground for mosquitoes. The single most important step residents can take to help us fight mosquito populations is to remove and/or report standing water in yards and neighborhoods. Common sources of standing water are bird baths, pet dishes, flower pot drip trays, ponds, tires, rain gutters, wheelbarrows, wading pools, puddles and ditches, and unused swimming pools. It is important to either change the water in these locations frequently or take measures to prevent them from collecting water in the first place. Please do your part to help us control the mosquito population.

If you see mosquito larvae, empty the water or call to report standing water near you. For questions or to make a report of mosquitoes or larvae within Logan City Limits, please call Joe Archer, city forester, at 435-716-9749.

Mosquitoes may carry West Nile Virus. Residents can protect themselves from West Nile Virus by taking the following precautions:
  • Wear insect repellent containing DEET when outdoors at dawn and dusk
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outdoors
  • Avoid mosquito infested areas
  • Limit time out of doors during dawn and dusk

Memorial Day Waste Collection

All city offices and the landfill will be closed on Monday May 26, 2014 and residential garbage recycling, and green waste will not be collected. Monday and Tuesday's routes should be collected on Tuesday May 27, 2014. There is a potential for a portion of Tuesday's routes to be collected on Wednesday. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Please remember to have all cans to the curb by 7 AM on Tuesday as normal driving routes may not be followed.

On Monday May 26, 2014, there will be limited commercial garbage collection and no commercial recycling collection.

For more information, please call us at (435) 716-9755.

No Yard Waste in Blue Curbside Recycling Cans

This spring, Logan City Environmental Department has noticed an increase of contamination in blue curbside recycling containers in the form of yard waste. We would like to remind residents that that yard waste should NOT be placed in your blue recycling can or dumpster. Contamination complicates the recycling process and can ruin some recyclable items. We ask that you please be sure to only place recyclable items in your blue recycling container.

If you would like to recycle green waste, please call our office and subscribe to the voluntary curbside green waste (green can) collection program for only $4 a month, take advantage of one of the many FREE community green waste drop sites (exact locations on our website), or bring your yard waste to the Logan City Green Waste Facility located at the Logan Landfill (200 N 1400 W) for FREE!

If you have questions about what should or should not be placed in your blue recycling container or our yard waste programs, please call our office at 435-716-9755.

Mosquito Abatement Season Preparation

Logan City Environmental Department would like to remind the public that mosquito control season is nearing. Details on a specific begin date will appear in a future public service announcement. In preparation for mosquito abatement season, any residents who would like to be personally contacted prior to us spraying in their neighborhood or be put on the "do not spray list" should contact , city forester, (435) 716-9749. If you have previously registered for the "do not spray" or notification list, please note that you must call or email each season to remain on the lists. More information can be found on the Mosquito Abatement page.

Report Broken Waste Containers Online

Logan City Environmental Department would like to remind residents that container repair is a complementary service. If your container is in need of repair, please let us know. We are pleased to announce that Cache County residents can now report broken cans and dumpsters online.

You will need the container number in order to fill out the form completely. When obtaining a container number, please include all numbers and letters on your container as this helps us to identify parts that we may need to service your container. Fill out this form for residential cans. Fill out this form for commercial dumpsters.

Once the form has been submitted, your container should be left in an accessible location (in the front yard, but not on the street) until your container has been repaired or traded. Residents can use their containers as normal during this time. Service should be completed within two weeks of submitting the online service request. For questions about container repair or this service, please call our office at (435) 716-9755.
