Provides counter and telephone assistance to the public regarding building permits; directs people to appropriate staff or departments for assistance as necessary; files permits, plans, inspections, and permit records in an appropriate manner and retains records for the period required; schedules inspections and coordinates with inspectors and contractors; maintains the daily inspection schedule and prepares next day inspections; logs and tracks building permit application status; type various office correspondence, memoranda and other documents. Gives general information regarding requirements for obtaining permits; helps public with questions about the administrative parts of construction practices and codes; processes building permits, collects the fees and makes deposits to finance department.
This is a part-time position working 30 hours per week. Must be available to work 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of office management practices and procedures.
Knowledge of departmental operations and functions.
Knowledge of general bookkeeping/billing practices and procedures.
Knowledge of computer software used to complete assigned projects.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with corporate/government organization staff, other City staff, and the public.
Skill in following complex oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
Skill in operating a variety of office equipment, including word processor, computer terminal, adding machine, and telephone.
Ability to maintain and handle confidential information.
Ability to work under pressure and be multi-task oriented.
High School GED or equivalent AND experience equivalent to two (2) years full-time secretarial/clerical support work; OR completion of a post high school training program in secretarial sciences including the use of word processors. Must be able to type 50 wpm net. Require a valid Utah Operator's License.
Must be available to work Monday - Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
