RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reads water meters on assigned routes; calculates water consumption; determines consistency of meter readings; reports unusual readings to the supervisor; ensures meters are functioning properly; inspects visible plumbing for water leakage; reports meter or equipment defects to supervisor; completes service orders for damaged or defective meters; ensures accurate billing of water and sewer consumption to customer and to protect the City from any unnecessary losses.
Provides water utility customer service including rereading meters when problems are identified or encountered; tactfully responds to citizen inquiries and complaints; encounters reoccurring exposure to hostile property owner, and vicious dogs and other animals; ensures vehicles are properly serviced; maintains City vehicles and equipment; assists water/wastewater leak crews with flagging, blue staking, and semi-skilled laborer activities when needed.
Operates a hand-held computer for reading water meters and entering or retrieving data on accounts; performs minor repair on equipment and reports the need for major repair; performs assigned work under hazardous conditions, moving traffic, and adverse weather conditions; assists contractors or water/wastewater crews with the installation of meters; thaws water lines and provides alternate sources of water to customers; raises meter barrels when necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of meter reading and usage recording techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of the City of Logan meter routes and the procedures for working them.
Knowledge of meter reading schedules, billings, and related customer service oriented policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the basic mechanics of water meter operation.
Skill in interacting with co-workers, other City staff, and the public to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Skill in reading maps and understanding simple geography relating to City streets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a High School graduate or equivalent. Must possess or be able to obtain a Water Distribution II Certificate from the State of Utah. Must possess a valid Utah Operator’s License. Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
