Under general supervision, performs highly technical monitoring of telephones, radio channels, and computers, to assure prompt and efficient dispatching of all public safety emergency equipment and personnel for the Cache County area.
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours a week, working 8 hour shifts rotating on days, swings, and graves, including weekends and holidays.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
A successful candidate will perform entry-level emergency communications and dispatch duties; receive and coordinate routine and emergency requests for public safety departments; dispatch patrol cars, emergency vehicles and equipment; monitor locations and activities of all public safety field personnel and apparatus/equipment; search records for warrants, vehicle registrations, driver licenses, and other information; enter and retrieve information from computer; maintain and operate a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system; and keep necessary logs, records, and reports; operate multiple channel radio, computer terminal, teletype and other office equipment and perform other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of emergency medical service, law enforcement and fire organization procedures.
Knowledge of law enforcement codes, practices and methods.
Skills in computer operation and data entry.
Skills in the operation of a two-way radio, computer terminals and teletype equipment.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing in routine and emergency and/or stressful situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, department heads, and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and must possess or be able to obtain a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) and Police Officer Standard Training (POST) dispatch certifications. Must be able to sit at a computer terminal in a confined space for long periods of time, using a radio/phone earpiece and headset during shifts. Must be able to type 40 wpm net. Must be able to work any shift, weekends, and holidays.
