Chief Jeff Peterson
Jeff began his fire career in 1983 as a Firefighter/EMT with the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department. While with the Smithfield Fire Department, he served as Training Officer, Captain and Assistant Chief.
In 1991 Jeff was elected President of the Cache Valley Association of EMT’s where he was also an EMT Instructor and Course Coordinator.
In 1990 Jeff was hired as the Deputy Chief for the Cache County Fire District. During that time he directed the Training and Hazardous Materials Divisions. As part of his duties he was appointed as Chairperson for the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). Jeff was instrumental in starting the Cache County Hazardous Materials Response Team, which is one of only a few in rural Utah. Jeff also helped implement a comprehensive training and certification program for the district’s 230 firefighters. During the severe fire season of 2000, Jeff helped put the Cache County wildland hand crew together to assist the local fire departments.
When the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy purchased the Flashover Survival Prop Jeff was one of the original 12 instructors. Over the past 10 years Jeff has taught many classes for the academy including: Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, Hazardous Materials Technician, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Managing Company Tactical Operations, Fire Officer I, Instructor I and Instructor II. Jeff co-developed the Utah Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I and II training programs that was used for many years in the state of Utah and was a lead instructor in the command training center at the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy.
In February of 2001 Jeff was hired as Fire Chief for the City of Logan. Logan Fire Department provides ambulance and Paramedic service to all of Cache County and fire protection and EMS first responder services to Logan City, Providence City, River Heights, College Ward, Young Ward and Logan Canyon. After 2 years as chief Jeff stepped down to an Assistant Chief position.
In November of 2005 Jeff was re-assigned as Training Chief. In November of 2006 the Cache Valley Special Operations Coalition was established and Jeff was appointed as Haz Mat Task Force Leader.
In January or 2011 Jeff was again appointed as the Logan City Fire Chief and continues to serve in that position.
Jeff has an associates degree from Utah Valley University.
