SOCC, System Operations Control Center, is where our 24-hour system dispatchers operate. We have five full-time system dispatchers, and one mechanic/dispatcher. The system dispatchers operate the natural gas generators and monitor our electrical system and resources. Our computerized supervisory control and data acquisition system monitors our generating plants and substations and allows remote control of generating plant and substation equipments and devices. SOCC also takes 24-hour trouble calls and dispatches after-hour crews and personnel for Light Department as well as Water-Sewer, Street, Parks and Solid Waste Departments in Logan City.
Our Major Electric Resources:
Logan is a member of UAMPS (Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems) along with 45 other Utah, Nevada and California cities. UAMPS was created in the 1980's when Logan, Murray City, and others wanted to jointly finance the purchase of a portion of the Hunter II Coal Plant. UAMPS now finances several projects and performs the hourly load dispatching for their members.
Our major point of interconnection to the electric grid is at Mona, Utah. We own a portion of a transmission line from Mona to Craig, Colorado.
We have a 22 MW allocation of Federal Hydro Power which is part of the CRSP Project (Colorado River Storage Project) at Glen Canyon. We own 13 MW of Hunter II Coal Plant in Emery County, 44 MW of Intermountain Power Project located in Delta, Utah, and 18 MW of Payson Project, a combined cycle gas-fired generating facility in Payson City, Utah. Our local generation facility includes a 12 MW natural gas generation plant, 6 MW hydro generation plants and a small solar farm. Our local plants supply approximately 10% of our annual electricity needs.
The remainder of our resource needs comes from outside resource through short or long term contracts and non-firm resources such as UAMPS Member power exchange and the UAMPS Power Pool and spot market power purchases. We currently have 5 MW wind generated power in our resource mix through a long term contract.
