Cache Valley and Logan have been my home my entire life. Like you, I was taught to work hard. Learning to work hard at the most difficult tasks is among the greatest gifts my father could have given me.
My parents taught me there is a higher power than us, and that service to others brings value and contentment to life. These lessons served me well while serving my church in Chicago. I worked hard. I met a lot of people and learned a lot. I learned that understanding comes from listening.
I earned an economics degree from USU. Economics is the study of choices we as individuals and society make and how those choices affect each of us. Running a city is something that I understand.
I met the love of my life, Jamie at USU. We live in the Sumac neighborhood of The Island with our two boys Porter & Ryker.
What I've done as a builder my entire career is very similar to what the mayor does. A builder must bring together the interests of owners, city departments, codes, budgets, and neighbors. This can be an immense challenge.
It’s what I do!
A few things that matter to me:
√ FISCAL EFFICIENCY is an economics term that refers to getting the most from each dollar spent. It is much more than fiscal responsibility. A miser is fiscally responsible, but miserable to live with. On the other hand, an affluent person may not understand how to be frugal. I’ve spent my entire career managing large budgets, always seeking to deliver fiscal efficiency. It’s what I do.
√ NEIGHBORHOODS. I would like to start repairing our neglected neighborhoods. Fixing our neighborhoods won't be on-the-job training for me! I have an actual plan, that will produce tangible results and won't hurt the taxpayer. It’s what I do.
√ DEVELOPMENT MISSTEPS. Recent new developments have put stress on some of our neighborhoods. I'll be involved in our community development decisions. Together, we will get this right. It’s what I do.
√ MAIN ST. & DOWNTOWN. Think of any business that you have ever visited that wasn't well kept or was difficult to access; did you want to go back? Main St. makes our first impression. It should matter to us all, even if we don't shop there or own a business there. I have a practical solution to solve this problem. It’s what I do.
√ SCHOOLS MATTER TO ME. As a father of two boys, I know that time is what our kids need most. When the mayor comes to their school, my boys feel like they matter. As mayor, I'll make time in our schools a priority. Re-building our older neighborhoods and getting new development right is vitally important to our schools. It’s what I’ll do.
√ OUR ENVIRONMENT. We've all been taught to tread lightly, to leave a place better than we found it. We can do better. Easier recycling, more efficient appliances, and public transport are things I believe in and will support.
√ TRAILS, PARKS, SWIM, GOLF. I love them. I’ll support them. We'll build more.
√ COMMUNICATE. Implementing great ideas is always a group effort. Let's Talk:
