The purpose of the department Employee Recognition Award is to formally recognize employees for outstanding performance in the workplace. The Employee Recognition Award is selected by a committee comprised of employee representatives from each of the divisions within the Logan Parks and Recreation Department.

Steve Strickland Parks Division |

Steve has been employed by the City of Logan since April 1996. He currently works for the Parks Division as an Irrigation Specialist.
His co-workers said, “Steve should be nominated for Employee of the Month because of all his hard work with the extra water this year and for the extra effort with the big break at Bridger Park.”
“Steve always makes me smile.”
“Steve has been stationed at the clubhouse this last month and has helped out tremendously on installing the new irrigation. I am very thankful for what he has done for the Logan River Golf Course.”
His responsibilities include design, installation and maintenance of all irrigation systems in the parks, testing backflow prevention assemblies, and monitoring and scheduling watering of turf and shrub beds.
Steve says he likes working outside and with all the members of the parks team.
He is backflow tester, CPR, forklift, and flagger certified.
His hobbies include working out, all sports especially golf, golf, and more golf. |

Jay Nyman Golf Course Division |

|
Jay has been employed by the Parks and Recreation Department since June of 2006. He currently works in the Golf Course Division as a Laborer III at the Logan River Golf Course.
His co-workers said, “Jay Nyman has worked for the City of Logan off and on for the last six years. He started first off by fixing carts when a mechanic was vacant at the golf course. Once we hired a mechanic he began to mow roughs and to rake sand bunkers. Jay is one of the most pleasant employees to have ever worked at the golf course. He is always the first person to arrive every morning. He has never once been late. When quitting time rolls around, he always waits until he sees Nick to be “dismissed” as he calls it. He is one employee that has never complained to do another job or stay late or come in on a day off. He is always willing to go above and beyond what is asked of him. This was an excellent selection by the committee.”
His work responsibilities include mowing roughs, grooming bunkers, and repairing machinery.
Jay says the most enjoyable part of his job is just about everything.
His hobbies include fishing, hunting, golfing, and fixing stuff.
Jay is a certified instructor for Hunter Education. He also has certifications in refrigeration, air conditioning, and advanced maintenance. |

Shiloh Perry Parks Division |

Shiloh has been employed by the Parks and Recreation Department since June of 2010. He currently works in the Parks Division as a Labor III. His co-workers said, “Shiloh has done a great job this summer keeping the parks he is assigned to looking great. Shiloh does quality work and looks for ways to improve. He is dependable and hard working.” His work responsibilities include the maintenance of park strips, pocket parks, and small neighborhood parks. Shiloh says that the best part of his job is seeing progress within a park. He enjoys working on them and looking back to see how great the work looks. He takes pride in improving the park areas. He has certifications in CPR and First Aid. He is a registered Flagger with the American Traffic Safety Services Association. His hobbies include hiking, hunting, horseback riding, and working out. |

Trent Bateman Recreation Division |

Trent has been employed by the Parks and Recreation Department since April of 2009. He currently works in the Recreation Division as an Aquatic Coordinator. His co-workers said, “Trent is the greatest team player. He is more than willing to help anybody, anytime. His willingness to learn is never ending. He has been a huge asset to the pool and this Department.” His work responsibilities include all aspects of maintenance at the Logan Aquatic Center from safety to scheduling and the cleanliness of the facility. He also is responsible for preventative maintenance and makes repairs as needed. Trent says that the best part of his job is the variety of the work. He is a Certified Pool Operator (CPO). His hobbies include sports of any kind and the outdoors. |

Nathanial has been employed by the Parks and Recreation Department since August of 2006. He currently works in the Cemetery Division as a Grounds Maintenance Worker. His co-workers said, “Nathanial has been very helpful to Mark while Mark has been learning what his new job entails. He is always willing to volunteer for weekend burials and stay late. Nathanial has a great attitude and is friendly. He is good with the public and willing to go the extra mile. Nathanial likes to do the best job possible and has a great deal of knowledge about the Cemetery.” His work responsibilities include mowing grass, trimming trees, and grave preparation. Nathanial says that the best part of his job is being outside and the people. His hobbies include mountain biking, road biking, and running marathons. |

Reed has been employed by the Parks and Recreation Department since 1990. He currently works in the Parks Division as the Parks Maintenance Supervisor. His co-workers said, “Reed is well liked among his coworkers and is always willing to jump in and lend a hand no matter what the project is. Reed is very knowledgeable and has excellent problem solving skills. With a stern look and Popeye arms, first impressions may make one feel a little intimidated but he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He is always on the ball and coordinates job tasks as they continually change throughout the day. Reed will find the time and is patient enough to teach others the proper way to get the job done. He has a very high standard of quality and is a huge asset for the City.” His work responsibilities include supervising full time and part time employees. Oversight of parks, trails, and sports field operations. Planning, coordinating, and assigning daily work. Overseeing new employee training. Preparing of job cost and maintenance estimates. He monitors the safety of employees and public. Monitors events and activities held in city parks. Performs construction, landscaping and maintenance work. Reed says that the best part of his job is being able to see the completed finished project whether it be a well groomed public park or a completed playground. He has certifications in playground safety, welding, compaction, and fork lift operation. He has his Commercial Driver’s License. His hobbies include horseback riding and horse team driving. |

Max Johnson Golf Course Division |

Max has been employed by the Parks and Recreation Department since March of 2010. He currently works in the Golf Course Division as a Golf Course Grounds Maintenance Worker. His co-workers said, “Max has worked at the golf course for several years. He helped design the new tee markers and was very helpful in realigning hole #16. He goes above and beyond anything asked of him.” His work responsibilities include the preparing the golf course for play daily, assigning jobs to seasonal staff, and working on projects. Max says that the best part of his job is being outside and teaching the skills he has learned to others. He has an Associates Degree and Pesticide Applicators License. His hobbies include playing golf and basketball. He likes working in his yard and spending time with his son Jake. |

Dave Amussen Parks and Recreation Department |

Dave has been employed by the Parks and Recreation Department for the last 17 years. He currently works at the Logan Community Recreation Center as Head Custodian. His co-workers said, “Dave is the head maintenance man. The Department is short custodial staff and Dave is Mr. Do-It-All. He maintains the square footage of the building pretty much on his own. Dave goes above and beyond anything asked of him. He is very reliable and dependable. Dave is always busy and a goer.” His work responsibilities include taking care of the electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and supervising the cleaning of the building. Dave says that the best part of his job is working with the great staff here and fixing the problems that arise. He says he is a jack of all trades and master of none. His hobbies include camping, boating, and being around family and friends. |

Seth Sparks Cemetery Division |

Seth has been employed by the Parks and Recreation Department for the last 36 years. He currently works in the Cemetery Division as the Cemetery Sexton. His retirement from the City of Logan is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2011. His co-workers said, “Seth is world-renowned in his customer service. He is always pleasant and helpful. His personality and service to the public and the City is legendary.” His work responsibilities include the overall operation of the Cemetery which includes hiring and training personnel; assisting in sale of property and scheduling of burials. He is responsible for collecting fees and budgeting and working with administration to promote a positive, wholesome image for the Cemetery. Seth says that the best part of his job is dealing with the public and good employees. He likes being out in the open with the fresh air. He has s BS Degree in Business Administration and certifications in CPR, Logan City Defensive Driving Course, and various management seminars. His hobbies include golf, camping, gardening, Oprah, and all spectator sports especially those involving the Aggies. |

Congratulations to the Part-time Recreation Division Staff for their outstanding work and for receiving Logan Parks and Recreation Department’s January Employee Recognition Award. They include: Craig Alder, Kim Arnell, Anthony Blakely, Braquel Clawson, Skylar, Harvey, Blake Hillyard, Dustin Hislop, Kindy Petersen, Tasma Taylor, Jacob Wilkey, and Anisha Willey. They have been employed by the Logan Parks and Recreation Department anywhere from 6 months to 20 years. Their boss said “The steps above and beyond that our staff goes to to make our programs happen are unbelievable. So much time and effort go into making things work and participants happy. Each and everyone are appreciated for all they do.” Their work responsibilities include recreation program coordination, custodial aid, and front desk support and customer service.

Katie has been employed by the Logan Parks and Recreation Department since August of 2000. She currently works in the Recreation Division as a Recreation Coordinator III. Her co-workers said “Katie has consistently represented the Parks and Recreation Department in a positive manner for over ten years. Her experience gives her a solid base of information for the public. Katie greets the public with a smile and provides excellent customer service.” Her work responsibilities include providing Logan Community Recreation front desk customer service and project support as needed. Katie says that the best part of her job is meeting and getting to know the patrons that come in. She loves the feeling she gets when she helps someone out. She has a BS Degree in Physical Education and Health. She is CPR certified. Her hobbies include all things outdoors and doing them with her family especially hiking, camping, ice fishing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and bike riding. She loves to cook new healthy foods, to read, and spending time with her 3 kids. |

Becky has been employed by the Logan Parks and Recreation Department since March of 2010. She currently works in the Administration Division as a Secretary III. Her co-workers said “She is great at her job and always pleasant to work with. She is always willing to help.” Her work responsibilities include secretarial support for the division managers over parks and the zoo. Becky says that the best part of her job is learning daily about the Logan Parks and Recreation Department operations. She is skilled in most office programs and thinks proofreading is fun. She has a certificate from Bridgerland Applied Technology College in Business Technology. Her hobbies include reading, baking, candy making and has a winter goal to go snow skiing. |

Dustin has been employed by the Parks and Recreation Department since the summer of 2009. He currently works in the Parks Division as a Laborer. His co-workers said, “Dustin is willing to do what is asked and does a great job helping Marc Haws at Willow Park. He is very willing to help others.” His work responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining the areas around Willow Park along with other park beautification activities. Dustin says that the best part of his job is working outside and working with a good group of co-workers. He has certifications in HazMat Operations, Fire Fighter I, C.E.R.T, CPR, and First Aid. His hobbies include building and driving demolition derby cars and all types of recreation. |

James has been employed by the Parks and Recreation Department since October of 2006. He currently works in the Golf Course Division as the Golf Course Mechanic. His co-workers said, “James helps us work on our lawn mowers and goes out of his way to help us out at the Logan City Cemetery. He has a wide knowledge base of mechanical equipment and golf course operations. His knowledge and experience is appreciated.” His work responsibilities include maintenance, repair, and improvement of all equipment and carts at the Logan River Golf Course. James says that the best part of his job is that every day is different. He is an accomplished welder and metal fabricator, experienced in engine repair and rebuild, and CPR certified. His hobbies and interests include motorcycles, camping, golfing, boating, RC racing, computer games, and model rail road building. |

Marc has been employed by the Logan Parks and Recreation Department since the summer of 1985. He currently works in the Parks Division as a Grounds Maintenance Worker. His co-workers said, “Marc has done an excellent job keeping Willow Park and the Sports Complex looking great. He also does an outstanding job keeping his shop clean and keeping equipment looking great. Marc takes a lot of pride in his work and cares about the parks facilities. He is a hard worker and seems to always be looking for ways to improve the work process.” His work responsibilities include taking care of the Willow Park Sports Complex and general maintenance on equipment. Marc says that the best part of his job is getting the task done and equipment maintenance in the winter. He has certifications in FEMA Incident Command I-100, I-200, First Aid, CPR, AED, Forklift Operation, and Scissor Lift Operation. He also holds a CDL and Pesticide Applicator license. His hobbies include gardening, mountain climbing, taking vacations with family, and watching and participating in all sports. |

Braquel has been employed by the Logan Parks and Recreation Department since April of 2010. She currently works in the Recreation Division as a Recreation Coordinator. Her co-workers said, “Braquel has always put others first. She looks at how to involve others and make their day. She is always happy and lifting others up. Braquel is very thorough and professional in her job assignments. She has a lot of experience in parks and recreation facilities and programs and does her tasks very efficiently! She is very positive and goes out of her way to follow up with phone calls, issues, or items that need to be addressed. She practices what she believes and has a very strong passion for this profession!” Her work responsibilities include setting up and running sports programs such as Adult Softball, Youth Co-Ed Indoor Soccer, and Youth Sports and Fitness Camp. Braquel says that the best part of her job is helping Logan Parks and Recreation Department participants have an enjoyable, learning experience. She is certified in First Aid and CPR. Her hobbies include guitar, piano, anything outdoors, all sports, and her horse. |

His co-workers said, “Charles has worked seasonally for the last 4 years with the mow crew. Every year Chuck has become more of a leader and has been a valuable asset to us. Chuck has taken great strides towards being an awesome employee. He is friendly to all his co-workers and is willing to do whatever he is asked and do it well.” His work responsibilities include cutting grass and keeping the parks clean and opulent for the citizens of Logan. Charles says that the best part of his job is the teamwork that is required and the service oriented aspect. He has his Eagle Scout Award and mom’s seal of approval. She has shown her dedication and her willingness to do whatever needs to be done to support the zoo.” Her work responsibilities include coordinating and presenting wildlife and conservation oriented programs. She also assists with animal care and maintenance. Stacie says that the best part of her job is the combination of working with animals and teaching people about them.
