FAQ

The Street Department has many responsibilities: signs, paint, stormwater, drainage systems, road maintenance, sidewalks, curb and gutter, snow removal, and more! The many different facets of our department can cause some confusion, so we have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions to help explain.

"Is that you?"
Problems in the roadway are generally us. However, the following roads are owned by the State of Utah and you will need to contact UDOT with any problems.

1000 West, from Highway 89/91 to 2500 North
2500 North, from 1000 West to Main Street
400 North East of Main Street
200 North West of Main Street
Main Street
Highway 89/91

To report a problem with one of these roads, call:

Cleve Smith         752-5377
-or-
Darin Deursch      801-620-1607

Despite the name, street lights are not maintained by the Street Department--they belong to the Light Department. If you have a problem with a street light, call Logan City Light and Power at 716-9700. Lights on state-owned roads (listed above) are maintained by UDOT, so please contact one of the two state contacts listed above.

When a problem arises with Logan City's trees, please call the City Forester, Joe Archer, at 716-9749.

Any problems with a road at a railroad crossing need to be directed to Union Pacific. Call:

Jeff Gale      (801) 626-8382

-or-

Bill Ince       (801) 212-3939

We often receive calls about vehicles blocking driveways, vehicles that appear to be abondoned, or vehicles parked on the road for long periods of time. The Logan Parking Authority is able to handle such situations and can be reached at 750-0255, or you can visit their website by clicking here.

Garbage cans, including the blue recycling cans and the green waste cans, are part of the Environmental Department, not the Street Department. If your can was not emptied, or you have any questions regarding garbage pickup, call Environmental at 716-9754.

"Why does the snowplow leave a row of snow in front of my driveway? Why doesn't the City remove it?" In order to provide safe driving conditions, our plows must push snow off the roadway. As a result, a "berm" or "wind row" of snow is left in driveways. The City does not remove the wind rows because we do not have the resources to do so. To reduce the amount of snow left in your driveway, you can throw the snow to the left of your driveway (if you are looking at your driveway from the street) so that the plow doesn't pick up your shoveled snow and drag it across your driveway.

Have a problem after hours? Call System Operations Control Center (SOCC) at 716-9090. They can take your call 24 hours a day to ensure that your problem is taken care of, even if nobody is in the office.

If you have questions or concerns and aren't sure if it's the Street Department, feel free to contact us at 716-9642 and we will be happy to assist you.
