President's Day Closures
Please be aware that on Monday February 18th the Logan City offices and the Landfill will be closed and there will be NO residential garbage or recycling collection.  The Monday collection routes will resume on Tuesday February 19th.  Please remember to have cans out on your curb by 7:00 am.  For questions or concerns please call the Environmental Department at 716-9755.

EXTRA RECYCLING Collection for the Holidays!!!
It is the holiday season again and the City of Logan Environmental Department is asking the Cache County public to consider the environment while they are shopping for the holidays.  The department is planning to provide extra curbside recycling collection during the Holiday Season for no additional charge to residents. From December 17 thru January 11, there will be weekly recycling collection for all residents in Cache County. Our County currently averages 400 tons per month of recyclable materials and our goal is to capture all recyclable materials generated during the holiday season and recycle up to 500 tons per month.

Residents may place their blue recycle containers on the curb on their regularly scheduled collection day to be emptied each week during the holiday season. Please remember to rinse all food containers and break down boxes and paperboard for recycling. Please also remember that wrapping paper can be recycled, just remove ribbons and no foil wrapping paper. Please also remove the plastic parts of toy boxes and no glass. Starting January 14, we will resume the regular bi-weekly collection schedule. For questions about recycling or for more information, please call 716-9755 or to download a 2008 recycle schedule, visit us on the web at: environmental.loganutah.org.

Remember the Winter Ordinance
The Environmental Department would like to remind residents that as the winter season begins, please remember that your garbage and recycling containers must be returned to your storage space by 10 PM so they will not interfere with the morning snow plows. Please remember that it is unlawful to leave garbage containers on the street after collection. We ask that your container be set out for collection by 7 AM on your collection day to guarantee pickup of your can as collection times may vary depending on your area. For questions or concerns, please call the Environmental Department at 716-9755 or visit us on the web at environmental.loganutah.org.

Green Waste Collection ends for Winter months
Please be aware that the Curbside Green Waste collection service has ended for the winter months and will start up again in April for weekly collection. Green Waste materials may be taken to the landfill’s Green Waste Facility or to community drop-site locations until Nov. 30 when the large community bins will be removed for the winter months. For questions or concerns please call the Environmental Department at 716-9755.

What to do with Mercury products?
The Logan Environmental Department would like to alert residents of the proper disposal of Mercury. Mercury is a neuro toxic metal that is liquid at room temperature and once exposed to air, releases toxic vapors affecting the brain and central nervous system. Mercury and mercury containing products should not be disposed of with regular garbage as it is banned from landfills and should not be flushed down any sewage outlet in your home including toilets, sink drains, and washing machines. Mercury is considered a hazardous waste and the Logan Landfill will take products containing mercury for FREE at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Items containing mercury that are accepted at the Facility include: auto parts, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, thermometers and thermostats. Please remember to place mercury containing products such as thermostats and thermometers into plastic bottles such as old milk jugs and not in glass jars. Please also label and seal containers containing mercury. For more information on proper disposal of mercury or other hazardous waste materials please contact us at 713-6686.  For information on proper clean-up of mercury spills, please visit the Utah Department of Environmental Quality website at: www.deq.utah.gov/Issues/Mercury/spills.htm

E- Waste program
The Environmental Department would like to announce that the Household Hazardous Waste Facility will now accept several new wastes as part of the new electronic waste recycling program. Items such as computers, computer monitors, television sets, and household batteries will now be taken at the Facility to be recycled.  Please remember that the Hazardous Waste Facility will only accept items from residential households only, but the facility takes hazardous waste items for FREE. The Hazardous Waste Facility is open year round Monday thru Saturday 8 AM to 5 PM, closed holidays. Please also remember that old cell phones and ink jet cartridges can be taken in your home blue recycling container. Just please place cell phones and ink jet cartridges in plastic baggies. For questions about hazardous waste, please call 713-6686.

Container Repair
The Environmental Department would like to let all residents know about the container repair program. If you have a slightly broken or damaged garbage, recycling, or green waste can at your home, the Environmental department offers container repair at no additional cost. For minor fixes such as broken or missing wheels, broken handles, rips in the can due to wear and tear, the Environmental Department will come out to your home to fix or replace the container. For questions or concerns, please call 716-9755 to report a damaged can.

Please keep lids on Recycling Containers
The Environmental Department would like to remind residents that as the snow season begins, please remember to keep the lids down on your blue recycling containers. Wet materials cannot always be recycled because of damage to the materials. Please also remember that glass is not accepted in the household recycling program. Glass creates contamination to other recyclable items and can become a safety hazard for the sorting process. Our recycling program has had great success and we have received less than 10% contamination problems, which is much lower than other communities. Contamination happens when people mix garbage in their recycling containers or liquids that can ruin the recyclable materials. For a list of glass recycling drop-sites or for questions or concerns, please call the Environmental Department at 716-9755.

Landfill Mall
The Environmental Department would like to announce a new way to recycle household or refurbished items at the new Landfill Mall! The Landfill mall is now open and ready to take reusable items in good condition for reuse to other customers. Landfill Attendants will make determination of acceptable items for drop-off and then items will be placed on lots where customers will be charged a $5 handling fee per lot to take items out of the Landfill Mall. To view lots, please visit the Landfill Mall page or visit the Logan Landfill to view or examine items. Purchases must be made at time of pickup, first come, first serve. The Logan Landfill will not be held accountable for non-working items, and no refunds will be allowed. For questions about the Landfill Mall or to see if lots are still available, please call the Landfill at 750-9981.

2008 Holiday Schedule

Please be aware that Logan City observes the following holidays and on these dates, the Logan City offices and the Logan Landfill will be closed and there will be NO residential garbage or recycling collection (unless otherwise indicated).  Garbage and recycling collection routes will be collected the following day.
