At Logan Fire Department we are working hard to be the top of our game. Look at what the Fire Division has in the works:

• Wildland Expansion - Logan has a great deal of wildland area that borders with the homes and yards. This area is called the Wildland/Urban interface and is protected by Logan firefighters. We currently have two specially built trucks called brush trucks (type 5 engines) available for these calls. Logan often helps other agencies fight wildfires and also receives help from them as well. This cooperation allows cities to spend less on equipment while still maintaining the needed resources to fight wildland fires. Logan is currently training new personnel in the positions of Crew boss and Engine Boss. These positions allow our firefighters to lead fire crews on larger fires inside and outside of Logan.
• High Expansion Foam System - We plan to purchase a high expansion foam unit. This unit puts out a thick foam that is perfect for fighting liquid fuel fires. Liquid fuel fire cannot be extinguished with water. Take gasoline for instance. Gasoline floats on water so applying water to this type of fire would only spread the fire. Foam covers the fuel and smothers the fire. This unit will allow us to provide an increased level of protection to the airport and has other applications as well.
• Training Evolutions - New fire training evolutions are being developed to help firefighters practice certain skills that are common on most fire scenes. Once these skills are internalized firefighters can adjust them as needed to meet the needs of individual fire scenes.
