Hardware

The city uses an IBM iSeries (AS400) mid-range computer system that performs the majority of the processing power for the city's mission-critical software applications. In addition, there are over 350 PCs and smaller workstations that are used to provide other capabilities such as word processing. Most of these PCs and large computer systems are networked together in Local Area Networks (LAN) which are in turn all tied together in a city wide network. This city wide network also has wide area links to the other local and state agencies, as well as the world wide Internet.
