Jay A. Monson was elected to the Logan City Council for a four year term beginning January 2008. Jay has lived in Logan for over 40 years, moving here from Arizona where he taught in a middle school in Scottsdale. A career-long educator, he was a professor in the College of Education at USU for 37 years and head of the Department of Elementary Education for 14 years. He was also the Director/Principal of the Edith Bowen Lab School for two years. Prior public service includes being an elected member of the Utah State Board of Education (three terms). Jay is also the only person in Cache County who has been a County Commissioner and County Council member. He chaired the transition team to the new form of County Government. Jay is married to the former Jane Brinton. The couple has 9 children and 30 grandchildren to date.
