DEFINING OUR CUSTOMERS
The Legal Department is unique in that its primary responsibility is to look after the best interests of the Logan City Municipal Corporation. As such, we have defined our customers as the various departments and divisions throughout the City, including the City Council, neighborhood councils, employees and the numerous administrative boards.
The Legal Department provides highly complex and responsible support, legal advice, research, and interpretation of laws, statutes and ordinances to its customers in assuring compliance with statutory and other legal requirements.
The Legal Department operates under two categories: the Civil Category and the Prosecution.
CIVIL
The City Attorney, Assistant Attorney and Legal Assistant manage responsibilities for all legal services and activities involving the City including policies and procedures, contracts, agreements, legislative policies, ordinances and resolutions. We act as principal negotiator for the City on legal matters and prepare formal opinions on request.
We represent the City in actions charged by the City, and in all legal actions and/or claims alleged against the City.
We represent the legal interests of the City of Logan in matters involving land use and development, real estate, zoning, community redevelopment, and environmental issues.
We are committed to providing the highest quality legal representation possible to meet the present and future needs of Logan City in an efficient and effective manner. To meet that standard, we work together, share information, and promote professional growth.
PROSECUTION
The Prosecutor, under the direction of the City Attorney and with assistance of the Administrative Secretary, performs professional duties as required to carry out the efficient and effective prosecution of civil or criminal cases and the ongoing legal process of City government.
The Prosecutor represents the citizens of the State of Utah, including the Citizens of Logan City. After information is gathered from various law enforcement entities, formal charges are filed and trial preparations begin. Subpoenas are sent out and witnesses are commanded to appear for trial. The Prosecutor appears in court and presents the evidence and argument on behalf of Logan City and the State of Utah. |
