Landfill Attendant

Salary: $12.41 - $13.51 Hourly

Under general supervision, directs cars, trucks and commercial sanitation vehicles to the appropriate unloading site and operates computerized scales to weigh, record, and determine appropriate charges to vehicles bringing refuse into the landfill. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will assist enforcement agents in making decisions on the acceptance or rejection of loads by determining compliance with Environmental Protection Agency and State regulations.

Explains fee schedules and issues associated with fees, tallies tickets for user vehicles, answers customer questions, explains policies and procedures, handles complaints, checks loads for hazardous materials, tires, and batteries; directs the proper use of recycling facilities; performs a variety of office support and cleaning activities to organize the scale house and other facilities and tallies receipts from the scale house for the office.
SCHEDULED HOURS: 20-25 hours per week.  MUST BE ABLE TO WORK SATURDAYS.

THIS IS A TEMPORARY/SEASONAL POSITION THROUGH AUGUST 31, 2020

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a high school graduate and have experience equivalent to one (1) year of full-time clerical office work involving some responsibility for bookkeeping and/or cashiering. Must know how to count change without the use of a calculator. Computer database and word processing knowledge desirable. Must be able to type 45 wpm. Must possess a valid Utah operator's license. Ability to work and communicate effectively with the general public and establish and maintain a working relationship with customers and fellow employees. Knowledge of the appropriate sites for unloading various types of refuse and other solid waste materials. Knowledge in procedures and techniques for operating a computer support commercial truck scale. Ability to work in dusty environmental conditions ranging from extreme cold to extreme hot. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
