The City is looking for candidates with the following education; training and experience AT THE TIME OF EXAMINATION
Must be 21 years of age.
Must be a high school graduate or have GED equivalency.
Must not have been convicted of any felony, or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.
Must be able-bodied and capable of speaking and writing the English language.
Must be a citizen of the United States or be eligible to work within the United States.
Must pass a pre-employment background and reference check, and a pre-employment drug screen.
Must be currently certified as a Utah Emergency Medical Technician Advanced.
Must be currently certified as a Firefighter I and II, Haz Mat Awareness and Operations by the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy or any International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) accredited agency.
Must become Apparatus Driver Operator (Pumper) through the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy or IFSAC accredited agency within 24 months of employment.
Must have a valid driver’s license and must obtain a Commercial Drivers License within six months of hire.
Desirable qualifications and certifications include HAZ-Mat Technician, Technical Rescue Certificate, Associates or Bachelor degree.
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Performing a variety of fire suppression activities at the fire scene, including laying and connecting hose, holding nozzles and directing water streams, raising and climbing ladders, and utilizing a variety of equipment including pike poles, smoke ejectors, and forcible entry tools.
Operates fire suppression and/or emergency assistance equipment.
Performing emergency rescue activities at fire, accident, or other emergency scenes.
Administering first aid, at the EMT-I, EMT Advanced level, at fire, accident, and other emergency scenes.
Performing fire safety inspections of businesses, manufacturing/industrial facilities, schools, and other commercial/public facilities to identify fire hazards, potential/actual fire code violations, and to verify locations of hazardous materials.
Talking with school groups and other City residents to explain fire/safety/fire prevention practices and techniques and inform them about the functions of the Logan City Fire Department.

The recruit examination process will be divided into four phases over a two day period:
A physical fitness exam using national recognized job skills will be given to all qualified applicants. This exam will be a timed activity. Any applicant who does not complete the physical fitness exam in the allotted time will not be eligible to continue in the testing process.
A practical exam based upon current Utah EMS Protocols will be given to all applicants who pass the physical fitness portion of the exam. This section on the recruitment process will be rated to a maximum of 20% of the composite score.
A 2-3 hour video based exam will be given to all applicants who pass the physical fitness portion of the exam. This section on the recruitment process will be rated to a maximum of 40% of the composite score.
An Oral Exam will be given to all applicants who pass the physical fitness portion of the exam. This section on the recruitment process will be rated to a maximum of 20% of the composite score.
Applicants will be given additional points based on a pre-determined list of qualifications relating to education and experience. This section on the recruitment process will be rated to a maximum of 20% of the composite score.
Candidates are responsible to ensure that all information is provided to the City for assessment. Copies of certifications and diplomas are required in order to receive credit. Credit will not be given without proof or verification.

The Logan Fire/EMS Department is a multi-dimensional department that provides a diverse number of services not only to the citizens of Logan, but also to all of Cache County. Although known as a fire department, our organization provides advanced life support (ALS) and intermediate ambulance service for a population of approximately 100,000 covering an area of over 1,172 square miles. Requests for the emergency medical ambulance service comprise approximately 85% of the fire department's alarm volume. The department fulfills this responsibility in partnership with the Cache County EMS Authority (CCEMS).
The Logan City Fire Department staff consists of the Fire Chief, two (2) Assistant Chiefs, Three (3) Battalion Chiefs, a Fire Inspector, nine (9) Captains, three (3) shifts of fifteen firefighters, and a Secretary.
There are five divisions within the Logan City Fire Department; Administration, Suppression, Emergency Medical Services, Training, and Fire Prevention.
Administration Division: This division is dedicated to providing quality customer service to both our internal and external customers.
Suppression Division: This division is responsible for the safety and care of the residents of Logan, River Heights, Providence, College Ward, and Young Ward. We are ready to respond 24 hours a day to diverse emergencies from fires to all types of emergency rescues.
Emergency Medical Services: This division is committed to providing emergency medical services to the community. We not only continually strive to enhance our own skills but to work with others in public education.
Training Division: The training officer is responsible for researching, developing, implementing, and evaluating fire fighting, medical, hazardous materials, safety, special rescue and other training programs.
Fire Prevention Division: This Division has the responsibility to ensure all public buildings, i.e. schools, churches, factories, and other buildings are safe for those who work or visit them. It also oversees Fire Investigation and Public Education.
