Chief Jeff Simmons

Simmons, JeffChief Simmons is the proud father of two wonderful adult children and a loving, elderly dog. He was born in Blackfoot, Idaho a long time ago to a dairy farming family of eight kids.  He was raised in Ucon, Idaho until leaving to serve a Spanish-speaking LDS mission to Panama/Costa Rica from 1987-1989. Simmons then served for 6 years active duty in the United States Air Force as an Arabic language linguist and a further 4 years in the Utah Air National Guard.

Simmons moved to Logan in 1995 and began working as a front-desk clerk at the old Logan PD building on 200 North while attending Utah State University.  Simmons was hired as a full-time officer in 1997 and completed basic police training at both the BTECH and Salt Lake POST academies. He worked in the Patrol Division for 7 years as a patrolman and motor officer before being selected to work as an agent for the Cache-Rich Drug Task Force. A short time later, he was promoted to Sergeant and managed a patrol shift for a year before being transferred to the Investigations Division. He later worked as the Administrative Sergeant and School Resource Sergeant before being promoted to Patrol Lieutenant in 2012. In 2017, Simmons was assigned to be the Administrative Lieutenant until being selected to be Chief of Police of North Park Police Department in the spring of 2019.  

Chief Simmons graduated from Weber State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in History in 2010.  He later completed a master’s degree in human resource management through Utah State University in 2012.

In August of 2019, Simmons was offered the opportunity to return to Logan City PD as Assistant Chief where he alternately managed the Patrol and Investigations Divisions.

Chief Simmons attended session #282 of the FBI National Law Enforcement Academy in the Spring of 2022.  He was appointed Chief of Police in July 2023.
